The Klotild Palaces stand at the entrance of the Inner city of Budapest as enormous town gates.The eclectic twin palaces that bear the stylistic marks of the Spanish baroque style got their names after Archduchess Klotild (Clotilde) ,who initiated the construction of the palaces.

Built during the Belle Epoque era, in 1902 , By Kálmán Giergl and Flóris Korb, Matild Palace was developed under the patronage of her imperial and royal highness Maria Klotild of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to serve as the social hub of Budapest, Korb and Giergl envisioned of an english baroque palace on either side of the road that would serve as the Gateway to the Elizabeth bridge.

At the tie of the construction the palaces were built with pioneering techniques ,the core iron structure  was adorned with beautifully crafted carved stone.The very first elevator system in Hungary was installed in Matild palace with an exceptional wrought iron case.

Our founder the Duchess was a notable supporter of the Hungarian masters in several industries.The majestic building of Matild palace was designed to showcase the mastery of the greatest craftsmen of the era.The ornated glass windows were made by Miksa Róth who was the most respected and renowned glass artist of his time .His works are recognizable by his iconic art nouveau style.

Matild palace had many different eras in its long history.The Palace has survived two world wars and the hungarian uprising in 1956 after the WWII and the Siege of Budapest.

The Matild café & cabaret, formally named the Belvárosi kávéház in Budapest ; has a long history, dating back to 1901.The two-storey café was the most popular centre of the Belle Epoque era, where prominent public figures journalist, artist used to meet and where significant pieces of Hunagrian literature was born , like the Adventures of Sindbad by Gyula Krúdy, famous hungarian writer.

The unique design of the tower was inspired by the crown of Archduke Joseph Karl of Austria.Today , it is a three-floors  and one -bedroom crown tower suite ,the first suite in Hungary with a 48 meter high dedicated tower, providing breath-taking 360-degree views of the city and Danube River over the rooftops of Budapest.

Originally the building had different functions on every level.Respected busniesses and restaurants occupied the ground floor while on the  first floor different organizations and associations operated. Th residents of Matild Palace had their cosmopolitan apartments ont he upper floors.Several ateliers and art studios of painters and photographers took place in the attic.
