Best lookout spots of Budapest

Budapest is a bustling metropolis of 1.9 million people and one the best located capitals. However, sometimes you need to leave the hastle and bustle of the city behind or just find some rest in the hills and towering places above the city.

To support this idea we need to give some fine examples and panoramic options in our beautiful capital Let’s take a visit on the best panoramic spots in the city.I have hand picked some of the best panoramic places you must visit during your visit to Budapest..On the other hand it is a prefect opportunity to conquer your fear of heights.

Elizabeth Look-out tower

The Elizabeth Lookout (Erzsébet-kilátó) is a historic lookout tower on János-hegy (hill) above Budapest. Built in 1911, the tower was named after Empress Elisabeth, wife of Emperor Franz Joseph I. It was one of favorite places and a makeshift wooden lookout tower was built on the spot.

Built mainly in art nouveau style reflecting the favorite feautures of its era.For many years there was a commemorative small statue of Epress Elizabeth erected here nearby the tower but it has been stolen a long ago.The whole area is perfect location for some great walk or hiking.

I myself hike a lot in these beautiful hills and always spend some time at János-hill.I think the whole area is pretty much underrated and not well-known to most toursit altough it is really worth taking a 30 minute ride from the city to here

János-hegy is the highest point in Budapest at 526 m above sea level. Other hills nearby, Nagy-Hárs-hegy and Kis-Hárs-hegy, reach 454 metres and 362 metres, respectively.

In clear weather, the Mátra Mountains are visible, 80 kilometres from the capital. On the far eastern horizon one might see the Great  Plain ( Nagyalföld). You need  to use a tele lens to capture more detail of dowtown Pest and Southern Buda from here but the view of of the forest and the distant landmarks speak for themselves. To get there take bus 158 from Széll Kálmán square to the terminal  Zugliget and then take the Chairlift upward. It was one of the first building in Budapest equipped with night illumination in 1926.

The shape of the mountain top was very determinative in shaping the whole structure.Pál Klunzinger designed the building and it was supervised by Frigyes Schulek who also redesigned the top of the building.

A huge red star stood on the top of the look-out tower for over 40 years causing structural damage…The last beautification and revival of the tower took place in 2005.Now it is completely safe to anyone who who plans to climb the tower.

Gellért-hegy & Citadel Unaparelleled view!!!

Gellért Hill is a 235 m high (771 ft)  hill overlooking the Danube offers a perfect view of both Buda and Pest. All of teh most beautiful bridges are also visible. Windy weather  ensures the perfect vision somtimes as far as 80 km. Temperature drops more easily than at lower points of the city so get some extra clothing.

The war-torn Citadel bears many signs of WWII mainly bullet holes and our Liberty monument erected under Soviet domination is still a topic of political debate. The fortress of Citadel and its inner facilities such as the Bunker are now under reconstruction. The bunker is a very moving scene it actually shows some wartime memorabilia, several dioramas and display of photographs depicting the perils of living in wartime For its atmosphere and poignancy it is one that surely cannot be missed when it opens its gate again.
