Lotz room reopens

Lotz room reopens

When you walk along the classy Andrássy avenue you can meet with this beautiful facade which reflects the golden times of Budapest.

The recent facade was made in 1910 when Sámuel Goldberger bought the casino building and a new Secessionist facade was created and he commissioned Sziklay the builder to keep the ball room and get integrated into the new department store. From the outside the building still bears the name of Parisi Nagy Áruház (Parisi Department Store). The facade of the department store is decorated with two statues depicting the owner and builder Goldberger and Sziklay the designer in allegorical representations.Sziklay’s statue is the allegory of industry with an anvil and a cog-wheel. Golderberg’s statue is the allegory of trade holding a sack of money in his hands. Both statues were made in the Zsolnay factory in 1910 and the material they were made from is the same as the material of the facade; It is pyrogranite. The building had several roles and function after its nationalization after the Second World War.From 2018 Andrássy Élményközpont operates in the building, showcasing interactive scientific exhibitions and events, and 360 bar offers an amazing panorama and tasty drinks on its rooftop.

The frescos of the ball room were painted by Karoly Lotz with the collaboration of Árpád Feszty .The subject of them is the Apotheosis of Budapest. The main character symbolizes the city and next to it in the middle , Patrona Hungarie is sitting.Around her symbolic figures of industry, agriculture, trade ,traffic and transport, public services and wealth are floating. This former ball room is of extraordinary beauty and after many renovations still shines as a hidden gem along the classy Andrassy avenue. The new coffe shop opened in december 2018 operates as Café Parisi always offers a breathtakingly beautiful, lavish atmosphere with its spectacular interior.
