By late morning, stop for coffee and something sweet in the inner city. Budapest has serious café culture, from polished historic rooms to small independent places with excellent pastries. Since you already had a panoramic view from Buda, it depends on whether you prefer a second skyline moment or more street-level exploring.
For lunch, head towards the Jewish Quarter or the central streets around it. This is where a one-day itinerary should become more personal. The grand avenues are impressive, but Budapest’s character also lives in courtyards, old shopfronts, food stalls, wine bars and the contrast between faded grandeur and inventive new uses of historic buildings.
